This is a community paper in a big city, so you get a chance to cover some "real" issues and get to know what I've come to think of as the best part of Boston. The paper has a small staff so they need the help of an intern. I didn't get credit for this internship because of requirements at my school (you have to be a junior and I was only a sophomore) but they do have a program set up so it is easy to get credit. Great creative atmosphere. I loved working with the dancers (attending photo shoots, watching rehearsals, helping to edit bios for the programs, and working the performances were all a part of the job). There's a lot of grunt work (copying, faxing, scanning etc.) but a lot of opportunity to gain experience and do real jobs. (Writing press releases, articles for the newsletter, promotional work both in and out of the office) and they really include you in the office team and listen to you. Overall a positive and fun experience.
