The internship was a real eye-opener to everything that retail pharmacists can do. The pharmacy team at my designated store was awesome! They were all so welcoming and patient with me especially because I had no prior experience. The best aspect of the internship is that you are there to work but more importantly to learn. Any interesting drugs or scenarios that came up were discussed with me in detail by my preceptor or other pharmacy staff. We were also assigned cases midway through the internship which gave a glimpse of the realities of patient medication regimens and the problems a pharmacist can directly identify. This exercise showed me that pharmacists can be involved in the prevention of major problems down the road and potentially saving a patient's life. I also got to see this first hand when my preceptor identified a prescription for an 89 yo patient for a medication that someone her age should not be taking. Overall, it was a great learning experience and a lot of fun too.
