I had a unique situation because the public relations director who was intended to be my mentor resigned a few weeks prior to my start. I was nervous about having a different mentor, but she ended up being wonderful! The office is a young, fun environment where team work is strongly emphasized. It is a casual and fun place to work. If you demonstrate enthusiasm and a strong work ethic you will be rewarded by being able to attend meetings, commercial shoots, and radio recordings. Working as an X-team reporter is not your average internship...it is more like becoming an actual journalist for The St. Petersburg Times newspaper. It is a highly competitive internship that only selects a handful of high school students annually. It is a year long commitment that requires you to write a few articles and attend monthly meetings and workshops. My editor was amazing--she was caring, creative, helpful and encouraging. She helped me create article ideas that were relevant to my interests. This internship definitely improved my writing and enabled me to become a more creative writer.

I did a summer program at the university of wisconsin and wanted an internship instead of taking classes. I am interested in sports marketing and pr so this was a great opportunity. My two advisors were such nice women who became more like surrogate mothers while I was away from home. I helped them with research projects, website design, updated the list of companies with trademark privileges, and headed a search for illegal use of university logo.
