Going into this internship I was worried I would be stuck with grunt work and wouldn't be able to use skills learned in my graduate program. However, my experience at Mullen was nothing like past internships. I was allowed to manage projects and was given more and more responsibility as I proved myself. I went to every single meeting with my team and was able learn about each project that they were working on. I felt more a part of my team at Mullen after a month as I ever did during my first job ...

Here's the deal with Mullen's PR/Social Influences Dept. when I was there: Suzanne Daly made the program great and now she's gone. You work on whatever accounts they choose and mostly do clipping and media lists if you're unlucky. That's about it. Unless someone awesome like VP Michael Bourne gives you projects. DO THEM. The skills you learn are highly applicable. Otherwise, you get almost no job/career training. I was also stuck with very slow-moving accounts - other interns had more responsibility because they had better accounts. On the plus side, everyone is really nice and there's free coffee. Befriend ...

Be warned—this program is not what it used to be. The ratings below pertain to a different experience than the future interns will have. It's a shame.

This internship was by far, the best experience I've ever had. From the start, everyone was extremely welcoming and interested in helping me learn as much as I possibly could. Unlike other internships I've had, I was asked to do "real" work which allowed me to really understand how an integrated agency operates.
I liked the summer internship so much that I stayed for the fall semester as well and now I'm a full-time employee! :)
